We taught our son, who went on to major in music, has been teaching HS music near Philadelphia for 5 years now, and is completing his Masters in Digital Music!. All his piano and voice teachers found him very well prepared ( he was accepted with generous scholarships at every school he applied to!), including those teacher who then taught him at the undergrad and graduate level!. HOWEVER - this does not work for everyone!. We have had colleagues who find that it is not worth the argument - their own kids clash with them, resent the fact that their *parents* hear them practice all week - or not - and then teach their lesson!. Sometimes home-based lessons get pushed to the side, or do not remain consistent and regular!. My husband scheduled in our son just like all the other people who come to our studios (we have two separate studios at opposite ends of the house - works best for US, and for the IRS, too!.)

So - do not think yourself a bad parent if you find that this is best done by ANOTHER person!. Think of all those movies where the poor kid is on a team coached by their dad - and they cannot make a foul shot - or if they DO get picked for something, people assume it is nepotism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello there!.

Yes you can teach your own children!. Who better!? I think that parents need to be especially patient with teaching their children how to play an instrument!. I taught my daughter how to play flute and piano!. She got several scholarships in music!. It is a good idea, because you can be there for them every day, to correct problems or habits that sneak up!.!.!.!. So I think it is fine!. It also saves hundreds of dollars for sure!. :))Www@QuestionHome@Com

ya sure why not, but i would if i had kids i would sign them up with a teacher and go to the lessons and take notes and practice!. just so they learn how to interact and they can make a lot of new friends in the new studio!Www@QuestionHome@Com
