Question: Colorguard help!!?
this is my first year doing colorguard and im terrible!.
so i have a few questions on it!. if u can, answer as many as u can!.
-on my drop spins, how do i keep the flag (silk) from wrapping around the pole!?
-how do i keep my exstentions (it might be called something else for other guards, but its where u put one hand on the tab of the pole, raise it, and do a figure 8 sorta motion with your wrist) from tilting sideways!? (keep it straight behind /in front of me)
- and will colorguard get easier!? cause rite now, i'm dreading practice since it's so hard!. i know its not easy at first, but only me and a few other freshmen aren't catching on as well!.

thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh my god sweetie, you sound just like me when I first started!. I was horrible, but eventually, with a lot of effort, I made our Scholastic world class winterguard!. I was a Tate Chaparral back in the late nineties!. The key to not catching a sail in your drop spin is to keep the motion constant!. As for flourishes (I think that's what your talking about) it's all about keeping your wrist relaxed!. If you're too tense it's going to go all wobbly!. I know this sounds weird, but sometimes you just have to let the flag move on it's own!. Most likely your just so nervous you're screwing your headspace all up!. I know it sucks, to suck!. I remember going home and crying almost my entire freshman year, but ten years after graduation color guard will mean very little in the grand scheme of things!. Instead try and focus on all the awesome friends you make, and the fun trips you get to take! I'll send some postive juju your way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't have enough points to rate, but I want to give kudos to Elle for her answer!. She's right on the money and she offers some very wonderful advice!. Hang in there, you'll get it!. : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes it will get easier! as for the drop spins just dont turn your wrist inward when you bring the flag down, you want to keep it straight up or down, dont curl your wrist toward your body!.
Im not really sure what your extensions are!.!.!. I think they are what we call cones, if so, you just need to figure out all the cheakpoints, and work on making sure you get to all of them when you are supposed to!.

Dont worry about sucking right now, your wont be expected to be perfect right away, Colorguard isnt somthing you learn from childhood and are always good at, you have to work for it and prove yourself!. Just keep practicing and one day you will be great on flag, and you may want to try weapons too :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
