Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Believe it or not, an epiphone les paul can sound amazing (I play in a metal band with the les paul chameleon) but I would also recommend A dean razorback or yamaha pacifica!. Many would tell you the pacifica isn't built for metal and yeah they would be right but it's also got to do with your amp!. A decent amp can make any guitar sound good at metal to a certain level!. Resonator guitars whilst not having the deep tone needed for metal can give off a blinding tone for sick metallic solos ( the resonance created from them and then put through some heavy gain can give you that screaming feel on the guitar) hope all this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The more gain (distortion) you use, the less obvious the differences between guitars becomes, and the more your sound will depend on the frequency and clipping characteristics of your gain and eq stages!. The most important things in buying an electric guitar - does the neck fit your hand well, is it comfortable to play!? does it have decent sustain (not counting electronics)!? is the hardware decent enough that you won't have too many tuning problems and won't have to replace it!? You should budget enough money to upgrade the pickups and get a setup and intonation!.!.!.!. assume you will have to upgrade the pickups, and a setup and intonation right off the bat will really help the guitar play much better!. I strongly suggest you do not get anything with a floating tremolo!. They sound cool, they look sexy, but unless they are set up just right they go out of tune pretty quickly!.!.!. !.even the expensive ones!. I own a couple of LTD's, an EC-50 and an EC-100QM!. I think they are both very decent guitars for their price point!. Jackson, Epiphone, and Ibanez are all decent brands!. Based on personal experience, I do not recommend the cheaper BC Rich guitars!. The more expensive ones seem to be decent, but the cheaper ones are not, and can require a significant investment in parts upgrades before they can be considered quality and dependable!.
