Question: I'm 15 and I really want to learn to play the guitar!.!?
I've always wanted to play songs from my favorite bands, with a guitar!. I want to learn to play because it has been my goal for so long!. I can't take lesson or anything though!. Can someone give me some tips on how to start learning!. I need a new hobby, and I feel that if I can motivate myself to getting into guitar, it'll be worthwhile!. Do you recommend any good books that aren't boring that teaches guitar!? I'm using an acoustic, but I want to learn how to play the electric too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i started playing the acoustic when i was probably about 8 but rarely played it until last year when i picked it up and started playing it again until i saved up enough money to buy an electric!. i have never had a lesson but i consider myself OK at it!. maybe not good yet but i get it!.
the way i learnt was through on-line lessons!.this site helped me SO much!.
http://guitar!.about!.com/library/blguitar!.!.!.
although i would have rather learnt through a teacher (it is much easier when you have someone sitting next to you helping you out) this site was really good!.
i would also recommend the DVD: http://www!.metalmethod!.com/
i haven't had the chance to use them but i have a family friend who is amazing at the guitar who used it and it seemed to have helped him heaps!.
but like i said before it is much easier to have someone teach you in person then to do it yourself or with a DVD etc!.
so i would ask your parents or your relatives if they know who to play the guitar or who someone who plays it who could teach you, or just give you some pointers!.
but like other people have said tabs are really easy to learn and to use!.
but just type in something like "free on-line guitar lessons" and heaps of site come up!.
sorry about the essay but I'm just thinking of everything i can to help you
=) Good luck with learning, and stick with it because it is worth it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yay for wanting to play guitar! :-D It's a great instrument to learn!.

Unfortunately, no book is not boring!. But there are really easy books to understand and actually learn something, and one of those books is Teach Yourself Visually Guitar!.

But I'm a firm believer of this: Nothing compares to taking lessons and having a professional by your side watching you and correcting you!. You'll progress much faster and learn a lot more than the greatest guitar book can ever give you!. Plus, it's just fun to have another person there with you who shares the same interest as you!. Books don't talk back!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

go to http:///www!.justinguitar!.com - a site that has everything about guitars or buy the book "The Billboard Illustrated Complete Guitar Handbook" which does the same!.

if you're just starting i suggest you start on chord progression and rhythm go to http://www!.chordfind!.com for chords and if you wanna search for songs to play on search http://www!.ultimate-guitar!.com after learning of to strum try learning to do solos and improvise!. You can do this by studying the scales and applying them to your solos!. So good luck and enjoying playing the guitar!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well I went to guitar lessons (It didn't work out for me) but I've recently wanted to start learning!. My dad has burned dvds and he learned the basics from them!. (Don't ask me where he got the dvds, because I don't know!., and I haven't tried it yet, but if he could do it, then I think I can!.!.lol!.) also, you can buy a book on it!. also, I've heard that once you learn how to play acoustic, you can just switch over to electric (It's a little different though!.) Hope that helped!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

can you read tab!? start with some really simple sounding songs!. then if you google for tab on that song you should really find plenty of results!. if you cant read tab it looks like this

-----------------------2----------
-----------------------3---------
-----------------------2----------
------------------4----------------
-----------3----------------------
----2----------------------------

you basically picture that the guitar is laying flat in your lap
the line on the bottom is the low e!. and on top is high e!. the number is the fret!. it's pretty simple!.
(this isn't any song by the way, just random numbers!. except for 232, that's a D chord!.
you should get a chord book!. you can get them at most music shops!. just a little poster or carboard fold out that has a list of all the chords and the finger positions!. that really helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just go for it! I started playing the guitar when I was 12 and I'm still not as good as I want to be but I think I'm pretty good!Find a book at the library or something and maybe use a dvd!. Find a friend to help you!. Acoustic and Electric guitar are kind of the same!. Ones just easier than the other!.

I still have an acoustic!. My parents wont buy me an electric till I get better!. I dont take classes either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you can't take lessons it will take you forever to improve!. Try going to You Tube for some introductions, but do yourself a favor and eventually start taking lessons - you'll do better and advance faster!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

hay same with me too im 14 and looking for the same answerWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well i learned from my dad when i was 12, and now im almost 15!. But i really only learned from him for like the first year!. Then after that, i started finding chords and tabs on the internet, and teaching my self the chords, and learning the tabs with some help from my sister (who cant play, but knows how to read tabs!.)!. I also started learning on acoustic!.

Well a good way to learn on ur own is to search up sites with chords on them!. A lot of songs are only played with 3 chords!. Ive never found a site with bad chord charts, and theyre pretty easy to understand!.

Tabs are pretty easy to find, and arent that hard to read after u get used to it!. A good place for tabs is Ultimate-guitar!.com!. And if u buy a guitar, it will probably come with a learning disk!.

I hope that helped!. If u have any questions u can send me something on here or e-mail me: under_my_voodoo_415@yahoo!.com

I like to help beginners with guitar troubles!. It took me 3 years to reach intermediate because i started liking learning on my own more than asking my dad to help me!. So im glad to help people who dont have a person in their lives to help them, unlike me!.
