Professional keyboards have 88 keys, the same as a piano and they have proportional sensing and tactile feel!. A cheapo keyboard from some bottom end electronics store will drive you nuts trying to play it, but a good (read: EXPENSIVE) professional keyboard can play just as well as a piano!.!.!. AND they have a whole lot more voices are are much more flexible than a straight piano!.

I'm like you though!.!.!. I still like the feel of a piano!.!.!. but you can't haul a full size piano in the back of a SUV or toss it up in the Vee Bert of a boat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, of course keyboards are smaller than pianos!. Keyboards are electronic, because they are plugged in!. But a major thing to note is that though the range of a piano is much larger because it has more keys (usually it can go higher and lower than a keyboard), the keyboard can give you different tones!. Usually you can press a few buttons and voila, your keyboarding can sound like a church choir!. Press a few more buttons, and you get a drum!. My old keyboard from the late 90s even has fireworks, so any new keyboard should probably have cooler tones!.

Another major difference is that in most cases, a keyboard's keys aren't as hard to play as a piano!. With a piano, the strike of a key makes a hammer hit a string on the inside, which makes the sound!. On a keyboard, one touch of the key simply registers an electronic pitch stored into the "computer" of the keyboard!.

I started piano on a keyboard, then graduated to an upright piano!. For beginners, it is usually more cost-effective to buy a $50-$100 keyboard that can easily be donated or thrown away if the student chooses not to continue than to purchase a $10,000 beautiful baby grand piano that would be heart-wrenching to get rid of!. If you plan on learning to play the piano, I recommend that you start with a keyboard first so you don't end up wasting precious money if you don't continue!.

Other than that, the keys are the same, and people don't have a problem transitioning from keyboard to piano or vice versa, aside from the weight of the keys!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

pianos feel my better to play, i find them easier because of the weight of the keys!. i find keyboards verrryyyy difficult to play and hate the feel of the keys!. next time your around either press the keys and you should be able to see a difference!. also they sound different!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Piano uses hammers and strings to produce the music!.
Keyboards use digital sounds!.
also, keyboards can do different sounds!.
Mine can do drums, harp, flute, music box, organ, and more =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

well pianos use hammers to strike the string and produce the sound but keyboards use digtal sound that comes from a circuit board and through speaker!. basically pianos are analogue and keyboards are digtal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
