I diagree with anyone who tells you not to get lessons!.!.!.!.!.almost every student that I've had that were self taught can't figure out why they suck at guitar!.!.!.!.!.most of them can only play intros to the typical rock songs, not one could play a complete song!. !.!.!.!.and they think that they can play!. Well maybe some geniuses can teach themselves and people who have perfect pitch, but from what I've seen from most of my students who were self taught, are terriable, they have no idea what key their playing in, don't know any scales, have no idea about most of the chords that they play, and are totaly lost on theory!. My advise to all is to start out with a good teacher, most music stores have them!.!.!.!.!.!.if your not willing to do that then go for one of the teaching sites on the Internet, some of them are really good, if you decide that you want to try that e-mail me back and I'll send you some sites that I think are pretty good!. For now get your guitar, go to a place like the guitar center and find a guitar that's in your buget, play all that are in your buget, make sure that it's the sound and action that your looking for, all guitars sound a little different, even the same brands, you could play five fenders and they'll all sound and feel a little different, so plan to spend a couple of hours chosing the right guitar!.!.!.!.also ask the clerk to recommend a good chord book!.!.!.!.!.try three chords at a time and practice them until you can change them smootly and easily!.!.!.!.!.it wouldn't hurt to get a scale book either!.!.!.!.all this will prepare your finger and hand muscels !.!.!.!.and if you decide to take lessons at a music store or an Internet site at least your hands and fingers will be a little prepared!. also check with your local college, sometines the students of guitar teach in the summer and don't charge that much because they don't have their degree yet, I know that Rowan had a few a couple of summers ago!.!.!.!.!.well I hope that this helped some!.!.!.!.!.good luck to you, this is something that you'll never regret!.!.!.!.!.it's been something that I've loved for over thirty five years, your never bored, there's always something new to learn, and once you get over that first year things come quicker and easier!.!.!.!.!.I'm not going to lie, in the first six months your hands and fingers will hurt and there will be times when you'll think that you'll never get the hang of all this but believe me with time it gets easier, bye !!!!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on what kind of a learner are you!. MOST people do not take lessons!. The guitar is a relatively easy instrument to pick up (not get good at but pick up), unlike the piano, so you can self-teach!. But my suggestion would be to take 1 or 2 months worth of lessons to help you!. It will help you get introduced to the guitar, and what exercises to do, and how to practice!. For example, I did 1 lesson for 3 weeks and I quit, but I learned something called "spiders" that help you warm up, how to make your hand more stretched to play more efficiently, and some basics!. Of course, you would probably learn this by yourself anyway but it's better to have a teacher guide you on the path so you're not completely lost!. also, he corrected my positioning!.

If you choose the path of self-teaching its really possible!. Basically this one site will help you learn all the guitar you need:

Go on the forums, ask people, read lessons, all guitar tabs (the music) is there!. Youtube is a great source as well!. The first week or two will be really boring but once you get the hang of it, it'll be fun!.

What do you want electric or guitar!? I know a lot of people tell you should play acoustic instead of electric and they are for the most part correct!. For acoustic, you get a relatively good and cheap guitar and you're good to go!. For electric, there are more aspects you have to consider when getting a guitar, plus you have to get an amp!. For electric, cheap means really low quality, a much lower quality than you probably want!. You can always ask for advice!. I made some bad purchasing decisions for electric but I don't regret it because I love metal, and would have gave up on guitar if I didn't get the distortion I wanted!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well it sounds like you really want to learn so that is a great start! when i started, i took lessons!. the reason i would tell you to take them i

#1 the person that is teaching you has experience that he will pass to you!.

#2 if you are doing something wrong, he /she will correct it before you make it a habit!.

#3 they will know if you practiced or not!. if not, they will let you have it so you don't slack again!.

#4 and they keep you motivated!.

its really about you and your passion for music that will drive you to become a great player!. once you get the basics down, they you will learn new skills on your own!. i hope everything works out for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are a ton of resources out there!.!.!.

Personally I'd suggesting going to a smaller retail shop and ask if they give lessons!. Talk to a teacher and see if they'll help you choose a good beginners guitar!. I'd also take a few lessons to get your feet under you!.

I'd also suggest that you not go too cheap on the guitar!. A poor guitar will really hurt your fingers and will not sound good to boot!. That tends to demoralize one very quickly!.

Don't get me wrong!.!.!. Even with the best guitar you'll still end up with sore fingers but in the long run you'll be glad you dropped the extra change!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Visit a music store and touch one!. Better yet, have a salesperson help you select a guitar that you feel is right!.

Second, take lessons if you can afford them!. If not, get a beginners' guitar manual that has chords, theory, and tuning instructions--along with exercises to work on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK I'm self-taught, and have been playing for about 47 years!. Do you have a friend who plays!? Take him/her to your local music shop!. See what you can afford!. I'd go for acoustic to start with!., you don't have to mess about with amplification and so on!. Get your friend to play what you like the look of until you find a sound you like!. If no friend, ask the assistant!. Next, ask what deal is on offer - free gig bag, tuner etc!. Buy a book of chords!. Pick 3 easy ones to start, like A D E!. You will have to push the strings down pretty hard, so expect pain to start with!. (also no long nails on your left hand!.) Practise onrechord, then another, then changing between them!.
Hope this helps - if I can be of further assistance, please go to my profile page and email me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I would start with an affordable acoustic guitar and maybe do a video lesson!. See how it goes!. A class in school is available!? You could always go to a musick store and talk with someone about guitars that has some knowledge, they might have some suggestions!. I would see where it goes before dumping alot of money into lessons and stuff!. Good Luck ^_~Www@QuestionHome@Com
