Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: i play guitar in a band and it all depends, some people catch on quick but of course practice makes perfect, it took me a few months before i became good and now its been like a few years and people say i sound really good!. i geuss you will just have to try it and stick with it, there will be nights when you just want to rip your hair out because you cant get the song right!. just practice practice practice! good luck and ROCK ON! If you have never played it before, get ready for some serious pain (<--k not literally serious serious, but really bad) on the finger tips!. To play it good, it depends if you put your heart to it and want this really badly!. I'd say if you play everyday without lazyness and baring the pain of the chords, alot of years like the pro, or if you're not really into it like for your life and you only want to play the song you want, find the chords for that one!. Practice those!. It will take a few months if you work EVERY SINGLE DAY and rest during those finger tip creases!. Half a year I'm assuming!. There are alot of chords so you have to narrow it down to exactly what level you want!. jut a beginner, stick with basic chords but I also assume you want to get higher then that!. Find anyone that knows about chords and guitars and let them teach you the basics and after a while you can move on!. I can't really pinpoint the exact time period for how to play the guitar good because how good are you asking!?
