Those "twist things are called tuners and are they are are arranged like this:

D G
A B
E E on most "3-tuners-on-a-side" acoustic guitars!.

If your acoustic has "6-in-line" tuners then they are arranged like this:

E (top of headstock)
B
G
D
A
E (closest to nut)

if you have peg on the saddle the tak the peg out put the string ball in the hole from the peg and put through tuning gear and tune if you have a "slip through" then slightly bend the end of the string and put it through the hole insert into tuning gear and tune the "slip throught" works on electric too !!Www@QuestionHome@Com
