Really it's a matter of how it feels unless you find that you don't hit it as quickly as you'd like to!. At which time it would be wise to practice a number of ways of getting your right arm there like crossovers, or practice playing it with either hand so whichever way feels quicker at the time will work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, it is unconventional but some great drummers play open handed!. As long as your left hand can handle the really fast shuffles and such on the hi-hat that is fine!. Just remember the hi-hat hand has to do a lot more tricky stuff than the snare hand!. also that means you have to place your ride cymbal on the left which looks really strange to me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you are right-handed, you should play with the left hand!. You are playing it as if you were left-handed!.

Learn the correct technique since their is no such thing as a left or right handed drum!.

The most straight forward answer to your question is: if you play the snare with you left hand, you play right handed (This is what the majority play with)!.
If you play snare with your right hand, you play left handed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you play open handed the right is the snare, but overhanded is ok too, cross the right arm over the left and do hi-hats with it!. thats ok too, whatever works for ya!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ideally you should strive to be able to play with either hand equally well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Play how you feel is comfortable!. Left for me though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
