Question: I broke one of my guitar playing fingers, should I substitue to play some chords!?
So it is my second guitar playing finger!. I can play manly chords, still but just use my pinky a lot!. It is hard enough for my hands to recognize chords without looking at the neck!. I don't want to have to re-train my hands once my 2nd finger heals!. Help!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should be ok!. Just keep what you know fresh in your mind until it heals and then everything should be back to normal!.

If not it will retrain a lot faster, as most of it is in ur mind!. Its only the muscles in one finger that will need to adjust a little!. You'll hardly notice it!.

Whatever u do, dont start playing a different way while its broken, or you really will pick up some seriously bad faults!.
ie!. you'll retrain your hands to play a different way and will find it harder to use the other finger again once its healed!.

Bottom line: Substituting for a different finger to play the chords will be much worse for your overall playing than not playing for a month and letting it heal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't worry, i had it worse than broken and the whole top part came off!. I got it stiched and the positive part of the experienced, I strengthened my little finger!.

I always used the pinky but now, because of the 2nd finger issue, I had to use the little finger a lot!.

But, when my finger was ok, I could still use it like nothing happened!. It stays in the mind and you never forget that fingering, What I hated was that I used to slip and use the 2nd finger and God, did it hurt everytime I used it by accident!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
