Question: How do you hold a classical guitar!?!?
I'm a little confused!. Classical guitars are the ones without the markings on the neck, right!? they're a little different!. Like, you never use a pick for it, and according to one source, you hold it on your left leg (if you're right handed)!. well, according to another source, you hold it on your right leg!. I just started playing and I want to get used to it!. I don't have a teacher!. So I'm teaching myself!.
And are you not supposed lean foward and look at what you're playing!? if not, how the heck do you know what you're playing!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Cindy

You hold it on your left leg because you are playing with your nails and your arm has to rest on the top of the body!.

Don't lean forward please, you have to stay upright!. You can still glance with your eyes just the same without leaning forward!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly I think you just hold it like a normal guitar, as for the picking I think you use your thumb on the three E,A and D strings and you use the first second and third fingers on the G, B and high e strings!.
If you're confused on how to hold get on youtube and watch some videos of professional classical guitarists and just hold it like they do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

HIRE A TEACHER!.!.!. if you think you can learn how to play a Classical Guitar for free on the Internet, then you are WRONG!. A guitar teacher is really the best way to learn for ANY guitar!.!. but for a Classical guitar it's an absolute NECESSITY!.

Unlike all these experts on here!.!.!. I actually PLAY classical guitars!. I don't stand!.!. I play while seated!. Usually I just cross my right leg over the left and rest the guitar on the leg, but I also use a short stool to rest my right foot on in the event I am standing!.

People who play classical guitar usually don't put SHOULDER STRAPS on their guitars!.!.!. not necessary because you play them seated!.

Classical guitars are generally played by finger picking and most people who play classical guitars, play MUCH MORE DIFFICULT music than people who just strum, so it's not un-common to look at the strings!.

OH!.!.!. if you plan to play classical guitar!.!.!. you have to LEARN HOW TO READ MUSIC!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

at start, you should look to what you are playing!. after more practice, you will be now able to look not on what you are playing!.!.

about the position, it depends on you!. you should be comfortable with the position of your guitar while playing it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
