If you're using a pick you need a pick guard!. While all of the people are correct who told you that you don't need one if your technique is perfect, you need to ask yourself if your technique really is perfect!. I've been playing acoustic guitar for 45 years and I'm glad I have pickguards on my guitars!.

There is a compromise: you can buy a clear pickguard that will protect your guitar but still look like there's no pickguard there!.

I'm surprised: the Seagull S6 comes with a pickguard, I believe!. If the top is cedar then you really need a pickguard as it's a softer wood than spruce!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A pick guard is just what it says!. It protects the guitar from being scratched with the pick and eventually, scrape the surface to a point that it can make a hole!.
Look at Willie Nelson's old Martin with holes in it!.

Now, I play with a pick and never hardly need a pick guard when you have the proper strumming technique!.

Classical players also don't have that worry because they play with the fingers!.

Now, Flamenco guitar players nedd two pick guards!.!. One on top and one on bottom because they play the guitar as a percussive instrument!. This means that they accompany their playing by tapping, the guitar as they play!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no worries!.!.!. pick guards aren't necessary, when you play the instrument properly!.

a Seagull is a fine instrument, by the way!. congratulations on your first! may she be with you always!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pick guards only protect the finish from scratching!. It actually can stop some of the vibration of the wood!.

You don't need a pick guard!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
