Question: What's the best instrument to play out of the Viola or violin!?
Honsetly I don't really careabout the differences because I already read another question which told me that!.

But it was a good title to attract people who might know the folowing:

How much are violins!?
Do they have a good sound!?
Can you tune them yourself!?
And do they have a good range (meaning I know they are the highest but can they do lower notes!?)

I woulbd be greatful if you could answer any of these but try and answer all of themWww@QuestionHome@Com

The price of a violin depends on who made it, and the quality of the materials and workmanship used, and also on the age and relative rarity of the instrument!. If you go on Ebay you can find cheaply made, Chinese factory made, mass produced violins for $100 that rolled out off an assembly line last week; on the extreme other end of the scale are 300 year old instruments individually handbuilt by master craftsmen in Italy, like Stradivarius, Guarnieri, Maggini, and others, whose best instruments can sell for a million dollars or more!.

A decent beginner violin can be had for around $500!.

Haven't you ever heard any music that features a violin or fiddle!? Do YOU think they sound good!?!? Of course, some violins have a much better sound than others, it depends on the quality of the materials used, the quality of the craftsmanship, the age, and other factors!. also, what you consider a "good sound" may not be the same as what I would look for in a good sounding fiddle!. To a certain extent, its a matter of personal preference!.

Of course you can tune them yourself!. You HAVE to tune them yourself every time you play, otherwise your playing on an out-of-tune violin won't sound good at all!.

Violins have a total range of about 3 or 3 1/2 octaves!. That's a pretty good range!.

EDIT: Violins are made in different sizes to accomodate younger children of various sizes!.

4/4 is a full-size, adult size violin!. Then all the others are fractions of the adult size -- 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4!. Its pretty self explanatory, really, If you're choosing a violin for a child, you would take him or her to a violin shop and see what size would be most comfortable to hold and play!. The other poster has already explained how to determine the correct size fiddle for a child!.

Teens and adults would need a full size instrument (4/4)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can tune your own instrument as long as you have something to tune it to!. A decent instrument will have large and small tuning pegs at either end of the string, some crappy ones only have large!. You have to tune up every time you play, really!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Play the French Horn, it ownWww@QuestionHome@Com

The difference in the sizes is simply how big it is, and that can determine how comfortable it is to play!. When considering buying an instrument, I would suggest going to a music store to see them first-hand!. Take one of the sizes (4/4 is the largest, 1/8 is the smallest) and place it on your left shoulder with your chin on the (usually) black chin rest!. Reach out with your left hand to grab the very end of the violin (called the scroll)!. Is that a comfortable distance!? Is your arm too stretched!? Then move down a size!. Is your arm too bent and cramped!? Then move up a size!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
