Question: Im trying out for drum major and i was wondering how important is the marching aspect of the audition!?
I ask because up until now I've only been in pit percussion and not marching!. Oh and I do know how to march but its military style (i!.e!. air force)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

not only do you need to know traditional military style marching & commands, you need to know corps style marching techniques, be able to teach and clean both styles!.
no member is going to give much respect to a DM that can't march better than them! i suggest you find a veteran marcher from the horn line to show you corps techniques!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well for your audition you will need to know how to march that's one of the parts of the audition and you have to be pretty darn good at it and then you will most likely have an interview with all your directors!. oh and when your doing the interview don't say your answers all robotic (like yes i have 3 jobs and I'm good at them or something like that ) be yourself like yeah I'm working on getting a job and just be truth full to your directors and thats all i can pretty much say!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

in order to be in front of the band as the leader you are going to need to know how to do all aspects of the entire band performance!.!. just practice and if youre director and/or judges see that you are trying hard to learn than you should be fine
