Question: Irish Trad Music Question!. What two instruments would best accompany uilleann pipes!?
Planning a surprise party for my Father!. Have a great uillean pipes player but can only really afford two more players - I have a choice of Fiddle, Flute, Guitar, Box, or Bodhran!. I imagine a night of dancing and some slow stuff too!. Any suggestions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Right, well coming from experience - Fiddle and Guitar, and DADGAD guitar would be way better, if you can get a guitarist who can play DADGAD!. I've been playing trad for years now so I know what i'm talking about!. Ideally u need instruments to blend well, and u need good musicians too - The person playing the pipes should be able to play the tin whistle and maybe even the Flute, and besides many trad players can play more than one instrument - For example i can play piano, banjo and Tin whistle, some can play 4 or 5 instruments, so u can get many sounds out of a session if u want, look around for multi talented musicians if u can get them!.

Surely there'll be loads of Jigs and Reels and Polka and Slides, It'd also be great if u could get someone to show the people at the partay how to set dance - its great fun btw!. As regards the slow stuff i'm sure the piper has a few slow airs up his sleeve

Have a good night anyways!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go for guitar (you can ask if they have a mandolin as it sounds better!) and bodhrán! Wish you could afford tinwhistles too!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
