Well the first thing you have to do is buy a guitar!.!.!. so get out to the music stores, realize how much you want to spend (going to have to be atleast $100 if you want something that won't hold you back)!. I have a danelectro with the basic stratocaster shape that has never let me down, 9 years after I bought it for $100!.

You're also going to need an amplifier!. Buy something small that has pre-gain, post-gain, and a headphone jack so you can plug headphones in if you are in a place where you can't be loud!.

Then you need to go back to the music stores, check the yellow pages, and find a guitar instructor!. Find someone that won't just hand you a book and say "learn this!." Make sure they are willing to teach you songs that YOU want to learn, not that THEY want you to learn!. also, find some friends that play guitar too, we're usually pretty friendly and willing to show you a few things that will help you learn!.

As far as reading music, don't worry about reading anything off of a clef, you need to learn how to read guitar tab, which is SO EASY! It will look something like this!.!.!.

E --0--
B --0--
G --0--
D --2--
A --2--
E --0--

The E A D G B E represent the strings of the guitar, the skinniest string being the top E and the fattest string being the bottom E!. The numbers represent the fret that you have to push down on!. This is an Emin chord, all you have to do is put your fingers on the second fret of the A and D string, and strum all of the other notes open!. Your guitar instructor will teach you the fine points of this style of reading music!.

Don't force trying to learn the guitar though, it should be a release and fun to play, not something that becomes a chore!. Don't let your instructor turn it into something that feels like homework, if he does!.!.!. fire him and move on!.

Good luck to ya!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Strat is a fine guitar but it's by no means the best or only choice!. It's also an expensive choice for a beginner!. You only need three things to start learning electric guitar:

1!. An electric guitar good enough to learn on and not stand in your way!. You will need to spend at least $200!.

2!. An amp of some sort, or at least practice headphones!.

3!. A good teacher!. Disregard all the "you can learn on your own" advice you may receive!. A professional teacher will get you off to a good start so that you don't later have to un-learn all the mistakes you pick up by yourself!.

also, ignore the well-intentioned but mistaken advice that somehow it's better to start on an acoustic!. (I say this as an acoustic player, by the way)!. You should start on the guitar you want to play long term, which will give you the most satisfaction from the start!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you're talking about taking lessons!.!.
if you can read music for other instruments, you'll fly through it on guitar!.
a guitar tuner is NECESSARY!.
i suggest buying a capo!. if you want to learn some of the songs you like, some might require a capo!. if you dont have one, you'll get frustrated!.
obviously if you're learning electric you'll need an amp!.
your teacher will help you with the rest!.
30 minutes of practicing each day is necessary!.

if you're teaching yourself,
well!.!. i wouldn't!. it's really hard!. and it takes a really long time!.
but if you have to!.!. go to your local guitar/music shop and buy some books or perhaps dvds they might have!. do your research on the internet/youtube!.

First you need to get a guitar!. It really doesn't matter which guitar you get!. Don't get an expensive guitar because you wont need it!. A cheap guitar will do!.
It also depends if you just want to play guitar or if you want to end up playing really hard stuff!.
If you want to play difficult stuff then you should probably get lessons!.
If you just want to play then an acoustic or electric is good and you can teach yourself or learn from the interent!.
An acoustic guitar is a bit harder to play than an electric so you will improve quicker!. An electric though is much more fun but costs a bit more!.
I learnt quite a lot from www!.ultimate-guitar!.com but most of the lessons on it is a bit confusing for beginners!. Try and perfect how you play before you start getting faster!.
Use your ears and try to play different songs!. It doesn't if you play it the right speed but try and get the tones right!.
Soon you'll be making your own riffs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why should you start with a Fender Strat!?!. Since you have zero experience, find someone who has a lot of experience!. Go to a guitar store, and try several guitars, then find a teacher!. I could supply you with all kinds of information, and websites, but you wouldn't understand any of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
