I recommend the Taylor 214 and the Martin 000-16GT!. These are both fantastic acoustics in your price range, both from reputable companies!. You can't go wrong with either of these!.

Twanginess is a charcteristic of the string composition, not its thickness!. There are lots of light gauge strings that don't sound twangy!. Keep trying strings until you find a set you like!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Get the Martin series!.!. The neck is extremely sturdy and well made and they have a good resale value!.

Now, lets play devil's advocate!. Try the Takamine high end guitar or ovation!. You might be surprised for the money!. If you do buy a Martin, remember one thing that is important!. There's no truss rod for adjustment!. So make sure the frets are well seated and the neck is traight with a slight bow of no more than 1/16" between fingerboard and string!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd choose a nice Martin DCX1E!. It's an acoustic / electric guitar, and sound really, really nice!. It's not the top of the line, but I'd said for the price you may find it (about $699) it's a real bargain!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try a Tacoma!. They beat out Martins in blind listening tests every time and cost less!.

My Tacoma acoustic is the best buy I ever made at $500!. It is a pleasure to play and is dripping with tone and quality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
