While I completely respect the opinion of the person who thinks acoustic/electrics are the way to go for you, from my personal experience I prefer electrics across the board!.

Firstly, it's harder to get a good sound out of an acoustic/electric on stage - I guess what I'm saying is that you have the concern of feedback from the body resonating with an acoustic/electric where you don't with an electric!.

My personal preference would be to play an electric straight through, and have a pedal or setting on my multifx pedal to cop an acoustic sound!. Playing live, it doesn't have to be exact, just close!. This can add one more pedal to your board, or require one more setting on your multifx, but to me that's a small sacrifice if that's what I need for a gig!.

I've never heard an acoustic/electric give good distortion, too, and as I like a nice think chunky distortion, it's important to me to have a guitar that will help me achieve this!.

How about this - have you ever heard of a semi-hollowbody!? I think that's the term - i've always called 'em archtops, but whatever!. I know Epiphone makes one that sounds excellent, and it shouldn't be too expensive!.

The idea with these are that they are electric guitars with extra cavities in the body (and a bigger body overall) than your normal electric!. If you've ever seen a rockabilly band, the guitarist should be playing one of these - they give a slightly woodier wound, from the extra resonance, yet you have no problem with body feedback, and you can still put a decent humbucker in it to get at good distortion sound if needed!.

So - electric with a pedal/multifx or an archtop (which will probably still need a pedal, but will sound better than just an electric)!. Those are my suggestions!.

I would suggest not playing your guitar live - to get a decent sound out of it you'd need a cap for the soundhole, saddle pickups or internal mic!.!.!.!. yeah!. Skip it!. Feedback sucks!.

Acoustic-electric guitars seem to be the latest trend in pop music!. Personally, I prefer them just because you don't have to go through all that guitar swapping on stage, and it's less gear to haul!. I brought two of these to my last show and left ALL the electrics at home!.

However, by the same token, some acoustic songs sound just as good on an electric!.

If you are low on cash and want maximum value, buy a Fender Squier or Epiphone Les Paul!. The epiphone is a better buy for $280 !.!. The sound is fat, the action is very very good and the resale value is better than good!.

If you like a clear tone sound, get the Squier!. I prefer the Epiphone and own a rel 1963 Les Paul!. But I adjusted many Fenders and Gibsons and both are low maintenance although I prefer the fat bluesy sound of Epiphone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
