Question: Mezzo Soprano solo songs, please read al before responding!?
I have to send in a recorded audition to a scholarship committee and i need to sing four songs, two of which must be from standard musical theatre literature

i am a mezzo soprano but i can hit most soprano notes athough im more comfortable iin the mezzo range!.

i have already decided to sing "i could have danced all night" from my fair lady and either caro mio ben or danza danza from the 24 italian songs and arias book
i need two more, one a musical theatre selection, preferably contrasting to the my fair lady song

thanks for any help you can give me :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

a good one is "on my own" sung by Eponine in the musical, "Les Miserables!."

Abendempfindung an Laura!. i don't know who it's by but it is a beautiful german piece!.

"I could have danced all night" is an up tempo, so you'll want a ballad!. Preferably from modern musical theatre, since My Fair Lady is older!. What about "Home" from Beauty and the Beast!? I'm a mezzo, and that song fits perfectly in my range!. It's got a lot of emotion in it, too, which is good!. Another good one would be "When I Look at You" from The Scarlet Pimpernel!. "How Could I Ever Know" from The Secret Garden would also be good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here are some suggestions for the Broadway song:

And All That Jazz
Anyone Can Whistle
Bali Ha'i
Is It Really Me!?
Lazy Afternoon
Look To The Rainbow
My Funny Valentine
My Own Space
People
Show Me (*also from My Fair Lady provides a nice contrast to the one you've already chosen from it!.)
Starting Here, Starting Now
Under The Tree
What I Did For Love
What Is A Woman
Who Are You Now!?

Other songs:
An Die Musik (Schubert)
The Blue-Bell
He Shall Feed His Flock (from "Messiah")
My Lord, What a Morning (Johnson)
Now Is The Month Of Maying
Nymphs and Shepherds (Purcell)
Silent Noon (Vaughan Williams) (*a really lovely piece)

By the way all of these songs can be purchased in anthologies from Hal Leonard music!. Check out the following two sites:
