Not only is it possible to be a good guitar player without taking lessons it is possible to be a great guitar player without taking lessons!. This is not for everyone!. Some people are naturals, they are just born to play the guitar!. This is not to say if you are not a natural you can not play the guitar at a great level, it is just alot harder and takes alot more work!. Sure some people will tell you that this is not so!.!.!.!.these people are not naturals and will never accept the fact that something they are having a hard time doing (playing the guitar) is relatively easy for someone else with the same or less experience!. Two of the most influential guitar players of all time were self taught--- Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen say no more!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you are interested in music, have a good tune, nimble fingers, and a brain, you are actually better off without private lessons!. I learned the electric guitar by myself and I can play quite well now-and electric guitar is not very easy, so if you want to play acoustic guitar, you will be fine!.
However, if you just watched a movie and thought of a song you want to play, guitar will not be a snap! You need talent without feedback and a teacher, or a teacher without talent! So I suggest you take lessons from a friend or a teacher if you only want to explore guitars and find a job!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!.!. But you have to spend tons and tons of hours on it!.!.!. a lot of extremely famous guitar players didn't have private lessons, they just practiced all the time!.
For example, Jimi Hendrix!. One of the best and maybe the best guitar player ever; had no private teacher, he just played and played and played!. He grew up in a really poor area (and was really poor) so the only thing that he had was his guitar!.!. no video games, no money to go to movies, just him and his guitar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course you can!. Some of the best guitar players of all time were self-taught!. Look at blues guitarists!. Many are self taught!. Now, as far as it goes, it in general takes longer to learn by yourself, and it takes a great deal of dedication!. And even if you don't have a teacher, you can surely find people to help you along and give you pointers, and mentor you in general!. Just don't give up!. Lessons are a good way to learn, but don't let someone tell you they are necessary to be good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely! Take it from me as an experienced guitarist (9+ years)!. I have had a teacher for classical guitar, but taught myself electric!. After playing electric for only a little over 2 years, I can already play the hardest shred solos flawlessly with a little practice!. However, I do heavily reccomend finding a teacher!. You will probably progress about twice as fast with a good one, and were it not for my classical experience I would never have been able to tame the electric so fast!. But, if you are tight on cash or can't get a teacher for some other reason, I reccomend the following:

1!. Find a comprehensive ciriculum to work from!. Without one, you will be lost!

2!. Record and listen to yourself from time to time to make sure you are improving!.

3!. Practice often and correctly!. Slow practice, however boring, IS the fastest way to perfect a piece!.

If you would like to add me as a contact, I would be glad to help you with any problems you might encounter and/or reccomend songs for you to work on =)

Hope this helped-

NO!.!.!. in fact!.!.!. the only way you can play any instrument well is by having that immediate feedback from a teacher or someone who plays better than you are!.

When you are just starting out you can and will make a lot of serious technical mistakes that, if you play guitar long enough, will come back to haunt you and you will reach a point where you can't advance because you lack TECHNIQUE!.!.!. at that point you will have to hire a teacher to help you unlearn all the bad habits you have picked up by trying to learn for FREE off the internet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
