Just play some scales and simple songs before you tackle any sort of performance material!. Make sure you practice whatever tone, bow, and shifting exercises you are working on too!. That way you get blood into your fingers before you perform, and you get a little extra practice on scales and exercises!. Win-win situation for you!.

If you really want to you can stretch out your hands and fingers!.!.!. But be VERY careful, because if you over-stretch before your hand/finger muscles are warm, you can pull muscles, or seriously damage the muscles, tendons, and ligaments!. That could not only really muck up your performance, but if you pull or tear something, you could possibly have to quit playing for a long time(I've seen it happen!. A girl tore a ligament in her finger by stretching too much, too fast!. She couldn't play for about 3 months while it healed and she had to go through intense therapy to get her hand back to playing ability)!. Just be careful if you're going with the stretching route!.

I really reccommend just playing some exercises and scales to warm up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Soak them in very warm water for 5 minutes!. Fill up the sink or bucket with hot/warm water!. Your hands should turn a nice shade of pink!.!.!.!.!.not so hot that it is painful !

This gets the blood flowing to the hand and fingers ; you will find them loose and relaxed afterwards!. I do it every day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This website was started by a Miami University music graduate who, as a student, decided he needed to work on his mind-finger connection to make it easier to play piano!. You'll find some short-term and some long-term exercises that will help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My friend used to do this all of the time!. Put your arms straight out, palms facing like a right angle up!. Stretch against the wall, leen!. Another way is to move your wrists in circles then stretch your fingers out, it's basically all stretching!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could try soaking them in warm water!. Menuhin recommends this in:
