Well, the position of your finger on the fret is just as important as playing on the right fret, you want to be pretty close to the edge of it, so in your case, you want to put your finger as close to the 4th fret as possible, but without touching the fret ridge for the 4th!. Is the string like buzzing against the fret!? If that's what you mean, then it could be a couple of problems, 1, your neck might not be perfectly straight, in which case, you should take it to a music store, or, if you take lessons, ask your teacher, do NOT attempt to straighten it yourself, unless you know exactly what you're doing!. your strings also might be too close to the fret board, and you would need to have them raised, the only problem with that it that, you have to push the strings down harder!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are holding down the string too close to the fret ridge, the ridge that elevates off the fret board at each fret!. try sliding your finger up and down the fret until you reach the sweet spot on the fret!. also, keep in mind that the bad noise comes from the string vibrating and hitting the guitar frets below your finger, you may have the guitar strung wrong if the strings sit too high or too low off of the fret board!. a good indicator of the "tightness" of the strings is for each string to be loose enough to easily hold down in the middle of the fret!. You can adjust the height of the strings off the fretboard at the bottom of the guitar at the nut!. Most electrical guitars have easy to use nuts with screws that raise and lower the strings!. Play around with the height until you get that perfect tension you can easily hit notes at!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to press down hard on the string and make sure that your finger is in the middle of the fret!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
