Practice your rudiments! Most drummers I know just want to jump behind the drum set and just start jamming away, they don't want to really practice!. If you don't have a practice pad already, buy one and practice your legatos, diddles, open stroke rolls, etc!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. Even though you might not use these techniques on the drum set very often (like a roll for example) they will help build your chops, which will make you a stronger/faster player!. And always practice with a metronome!. Practice makes perfect my friend!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hal leonard has a book out called 1,000 drumset patterns it can give you great time patterns in several styles including blues, ska, & zydeco!.

Other great books; Accents & rebounds (by ted stone)
Progressive steps to syncopation (by ted reed)
louie Bellson has 2 books that are great for jazz druming

btw; the first respondant is right, work on techniques and rudiments-its the only way to be a true drummer (as opposed to being an organic time keeping machine)

As far as drum gear, everyone has differing opinions on that stuff, but most will agree that quality cymbals are key, as well as making sure all your hardware is double braced! You can make a mediocre set soung pretty good with quality heads & good tuning, but cheap cymbals will always sound like crap!Www@QuestionHome@Com

ya definitly!. I have played drums for a long time,, and i'm 14!. My band, Blak Knyt, is on itunes, and getting popular!. We recored the cd when we were 11 years old!. In my opinion, the best drum brand, by far is Gretsch drums, and Evans drum Heads! To be really good at the drums, you have to be really driven and parctice a lot!. I always used to go to the following website to look up my favorite drummers, and watch them drum!. It actually helps you quite a bit!.
