Question: URGENT GUITAR STRING HELP AND BRIDGE!!!!!!!? LESSONS TONIGHT!!HELp!!?
I HAVE LESSONS TONIGHT AND YESTERDAY, MY DAD TAUGHT ME HOW TO PUT ON GUITAR STRINGS ON AN ELECTRIC!. IM INTERMEDIATE ON GUITAR!. WE GOT STRINGS!. THE BIGGEST E STRING WAS TO BIG TO FIT IN THE BRIDGE ON THE TOP OF THE NECK!. SO HE SANDPAPERED THE BRIDGE JUST A LITTLE!. IT FIT!. NOW I TRIED PUTTING ON A STRING AND BROOKE IT!. MY MOM BOUGHT EXTRA LIGHTS!. THEY ARE SO MUCH SMALLER THAN WHAT I HAVE NOW!. IM AFRAID THAT THEY WILL NOT SOUND RIGHT SINCE THE BRIDGE IS WIDER!. WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!!?!? LESSONS TONIGHT!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

That "bridge" at the top of the neck is called the nut!. The slots should be at or very near the diameter of the string passing across it (for example, 0!.042" or larger for a low E)!. You will be fine for your lesson tonight but need to eventually decide on a string gauge and have the nut filed to match that gauge!. A string slot in the nut that is too large can cause buzzing and intonation issues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Relax

Restring the guitar but go easy!. Those extra lights will sound and feel different but they're still strings!.
