Question: How to write lead guitar parts to a song!?
I've listened to some bands but still don't really get what exactly the lead guitar does, Here is my personal review
-Intro- lead guitar plays a certain riff reapeted
-Verse/chorus- same as above
-fills between verse and chorus- guitar plays a certain melody line
-Solo- same as above
Now I'm wondering if that's pretty much it, think of a riff and repeat it over and over again and then if you change parts in the song change the riff!. If so how can you memorize all these riffs and how can you write them!. also I can see that guitarists usually memorize their solos!. How can you memorize it!. Do you just record it once and listen to it over and over again, or do you tab it down for later use!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well what you listed there are just the basic structure of the song!. If you are a lead guitar player you don't just play the riff for lets the say the chorus over and over again!. You spice up the chorus of the song with guitar fills and runs, certain accents of notes etc!. When a guitarist writes a solo for the a song (lets take Dimebag Darrell as an example) He'll would loop the riff that he is soloing off of improvise and fool and with different solo structures untill he finally got what he thought sounded very good!. Usally most guitarists can just remember what they played but some do record it and listen to it then they know what they did!. Some solos are also done in the spure of the moment!. Lets take the song Walk by Pantera!. The song is in D but just during the solo it moves to the key of A to wrap up the solo!. Just a spure of the moment thing that was recorded right of the back!.

But what you listed is just for a basic song!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Same as any instrument!. You play the song over and over again until it's memorized! And yes, it can sometimes become boring, but it's worth it in the end!

Edit: I guess you could repeat the same thing over and over, but it would get REALLY boring for you and the audience!. You should just experiment with the parts until you feel really excited about what you've created!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
