Question: Do people really need to havemusical talent to play an instrument!?
Do people really need to have musical talent to play an instrument!. Ive never played a guitar before, and i want to learn how to play it!. Do you think it is just a matter of practice that i will get good, or is it the "talent" in you!?

(this might be a stupid question)!.

Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NOT a stupid question!.

No, you definitely do not have to have talent to play a musical instrument!. If you want to play an instrument, you obviously are able to hear the music, and you obviously like the music you hear enough, that part of you is saying, "Hey, I want to join in with that!."

That is all you need, so far as talent goes!.

Learn the guitar!. You can do this!.

Now as to whether from a teacher or from just a book, I would say you can learn for a book, because lots of folks do it all the time!. Truth to tell, a teacher will help you go a lot faster, and can make it a lot more fun, and can anticipate and recognize some basic errors and help you avoid them!. also, when you are trying a new technique, it might not sound good, but a teacher will know whether or not you're on the right path with what you're doing!.

But the teacher is not essential, and if all you want to do is strum along to a song or accompany yourself when you sing, you can just learn from a book and just go for it and have fun!. You can always get a teacher if you decide you need one!.

Now here's the other part of your question, the part you didn't ask, but might have been thinking!.

Can you learn to play an instrument very well if you don't have talent!? I'll cut to the chase and say, no!.

Music requires that you have a sensitive sense of rhythm!. You also need a very fine sense of pitch, even if it's relative pitch!. (Perfect pitch is neat to have, but not essential!.)

Then, there is the matter of style!. Every type of music has its own general style, and almost all of the great performers and composers have an individual sense of style, and might have many interchangeable styles!.

By style, I'm talking about the mannerisms that make the sequence of musical notes into something truly special!. Every type of music has within it a set of very elaborate rules that determine what is permitted and what is forbidden!. When someone performs a piece, and it is well done, but everyone giggles, that is usually due to the fact that the performer did not fully understand the rules of style of that type of music!.

The great composers and performers have such a gift in this area that people go away from a performance saying they've never heard anything like it, etc!.

You won't get to that level without a lot of talent, AND a lot of work!. Years of work!.

But if you earn your living doing something else, what do you care, so long as you're having a good time and others enjoy listening to you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both!. Every single fool will be able to play guitar!. But there is a difference!. Those without talent will never be able to play with feeling and your playing will have no value, but playing fast will be no problem since it is only a matter of practise!. Playing fast though, well it is not important!. There are many who play fast but can't play anything decent!. For instance, Kirk Hammett!. He play fast, well he has a bit of talent as well, but his solos look so as though they are only a bunch of excercises played together very fast!.

Yes I know many would like to decapitate me now!. There are many posers who fancy Metallica (in fact, Metallica produces nowadays already a second generation of ''metalheads'' who get on every true metalhead's nerves)!. I personally like early Metallica, but not Hammett's solo!. Damage Inc!. is a horrible one!.

So, in short, without talent, there is a line you'll never be able to cross!. But anyway, I don't know how you learnt that you have no talent!. That it hurts when you try to play is normal, it hurt even Hendrix and me a every single guitarist!. There is nothing like my hands are too soft!. also if you can't sing, that means nothing!. Many people can't!. It's just they do not have the voice and training!. Those who never try really to sing will always have troubles keeping the tune, but that's also quite normal (unless it's really out of tune though)!. You need two qualities/abilities: to keep a beat, to hear the pitch!.!.!.!.!.that's all!.!.!.and patience!. So get to some professional musician who can tell you whether you have talent or not!. Good luck:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The majority of people who play an instrument are lacking talent!. They do not intend to be professional musicians; but they enjoy the act of learning and of expressing themselves with their instrument!. You will never know if you will get good unless you try!. Practice will help you get better, but it may not ever make you talented!. If it turns out that you have no talent, play for yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NO!.!.!. a lot of people play instruments who have no talent but they play for fun!.!.!. the problem is, without TALENT!.!.!. the playing is just mechanical!.!.!. it takes talent for the HEART so show in the music!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

both!. it requires practice obviously, but if you have talent, it just clicks faster!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your musicality springs from your natural talent!. Not just the notes, but the actual music part!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
