AFAIK, record labels don't pay salaries to artists!. Artists usually receive a percentage from the sale of the records, called "mechanical royalties"!. But usually the record company advances money to the artist to pay for recording costs (studio rental, hiring musicians, etc) -- and those costs have to be paid back out of the artist's royalties before the artist gets any money from record sales!.

I would guess that if the record company pays for making the music video, the funds used that would also have to be paid back out of the artist's royalties as well!.

But it all depends on the deal made between the artist and the record company!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
