I've been picking up those temporary tattoos and putting them on the top of my acoustic!. they're pretty thin and mainly just color anyway, haven't noticed any change of tone and now have a pretty evil looking flat-topWww@QuestionHome@Com

There's all sorts of things people do with paints and stickers, but those don't appeal to me because the body of the guitar is where the tone comes from, and if you put layers of paint or plastic or whatever, that tends to dampen the tone!.

If your acoustic has a pick guard, you might consider getting a custom pick guard or painting or putting stickers on that--it's not so involved with the tone!.

You also could ornament the neck (but not the fingerboard) and the tuning keys!.

One of the ways I like would be to hang things from the nut end of the neck, or from the strap button on the body!. A guitarist I once played with had a little Mighty Mouse figurine on a wire like it was flying out of his tuning machines!. You could dangle scarves (like Steven Tyler does on his mic stand), wind socks, tassles, strings of beads, wind chimes (which would add a random musical element)--use your imagination!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Anything you put on your guitar will change the sound!. The top vibrates to help make the sound what it is!. If you put anything on it it will not sound the same!. The more you play it the more it will change its appearance due to scratches, dings and stains from your hands!. (just look at Willie Nelson's guitar) If you really want to customize your guitar do so on your strap! If you had to do something to it under penalty of death, try using a soft tip marker to write on it!. I know of a few guitars that have lyrics and such written on them this way!. But just say no!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a 1954 Martin D-28 and I painted it with finger paints!. It worked great!. I now have a mural of the the Battle of Atlanta on the top and cows around the sides!. The back has a full size head shot of Freddy Fender!. They say it affects the tone, but what's a little tone compared to a beautiful painting!? I saw go for it!. It's your guitar!. You should be able to paint it however you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i bought bits n bobs in a craft shop for my bass guitar!i now have a gold glittery scratchplate and several nice little touches, some nice stickers etc, which can be easily removed without damage if required, but go look in your local art/craft shop,it may give you some ideas!Www@QuestionHome@Com

WHY!.!.!. Guitars have a pristine beauty that other instruments don't have, so why 'Naff' it up!.!?

Besides that!.!.!. ANYTHING you do to a guitar!.!.!. any paint or glitter or stick on things you put on it, WILL change the tone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the off chance that your guitar is valuable you should be aware that decorating it will greatly reduce its resale value!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
