"Drop D" tuning is only about dropping the sixth string to a D, instead of the standard E!. The rest stay the same - E-B-G-D-A!.
The other answerer is describing "Open D" tuning - no offense!.

A great example of D tuning is this!.!.!.!.!.!.

Listen to George Benson's "Ode to a Kudu" on his "Weekend in L!.A!." album!.

Drop D tuning is a matter of moving 4 of the 6 strings down one or two semitones so that when you play the open strings, it sounds like a full D chord!.

Here's the scoop on this type of "scordatura" (a tuning techinique for bowed and fretted strings that is different from their original tunings)!. It goes just like this:

E string: Move original note 2 semitones lower to D!.
B string: Move original note 2 semitones lower to A!.
G string: Move original note 1 semitone lower to F#!.
D string: Keep the note as it is!.
A string: Keep the note as it is!.
Low E string: Move original note 2 semitones lower to D!.

A "semitone" is a "half-step;" 2 semitones would equal a
"whole step!."

Good luck on this new tuning!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
