Position:Home>Performing Arts> Expanding vocal range?

Question:How long does it take, on average, to expand your vocal range? i'm sure it's not that simple, and it varies depending on how big of a change and the person involved, but i'm still curious....i'm auditioning for a musical in about a month and a half, but i have a low voice and i would like to be able to hit higher notes than i am currently capable of.

it would depend on how much higher you want to go. the higher you want, the longer it will take. if it is fairly close to your current vocal range (like you technically can hit it but no one would want to hear it), then you should easily make with a month of practice. if you cant currently hit it, period, than it might take a little longer, it just depends on how much you practice :)

You can build up muscles to support your voice. Stretch, do breathing and singing exercises. Learn to relax while you sing. If you have good habits already, exercising might add a musical third. If you have bad habits, you might get farther by fixing them, but don't expect any dramatic range change.

If you are a guy, you might want to practice your falsetto, too.

Practise practise practise and even more practise!!

It's the only way I'm afraid...Try doing scales for at least half (or preferably a whole) hour, going to the highest note you can reach and trying to reach the next one.

Be very careful not to go overboard though: take rests, drink lots of water, and if you fel your voice starting to go: STOP and wait a few days before starting again.

=)

Good luck!

A couple of mounths, well for me.
