TROMBONE HELP: If I Don't have slide oil and don't have time to get any

Question:Well I have a performance coming up and the music store that sells slide oil (not cream) is more than 2 hours away. can someone tell me what else to use?

I would NOT use chapstick or vaseline. I would recommend just putting some water in a spray bottle and using that. If you don't like that, you could use regular lamp oil, but stick with something liquid based - not solid.

Though it will smell strange, and could discolor your instrument, in a pinch I've used car oil. I have also used Vaseline and Vicks and even 3 in one oil.

chapstick. That's what everyone uses around here. It's way more affordable than slide oil and it's practically the exact same thing!

Is it a solo performance? If not there must be someone around you would would let you use some, maybe bum some valve oil off a trumpet player?
