Well a coffin case fit a standard fender J bass?

It depends on the dimensions of the case. If its designed for a 6-string gtr, your bass will not fit. Musicians friend sells decent cheap bass cases for under $40

um, i woudlnt think so. but it also depends if the cofin case is a specific bass case or guitar case cause i had the same problem. good luck
