Question:just overall ability also and why

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: just overall ability also and why

When it comes to complex compositon and technical ability, Classical music is one. More specifically, works from Chopin, Beethoven or Rachmaninoff. They are, in fact, the pioneers of all modern music.

Nowadays, Metal takes the prize. Technical Death Metal Bands like Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, and Nile possess excellent musical abilty all while excelling in speed. Progressive Metal band Dream Theater has a great display of musicians; drummer, guitarist, bassist, and a piano player that can be compared to any great virtuoso of our time. And of course, Thrash Metal bands Metallica and Slayer proved to be some of the best bands of the 80's and 90's. Even Black Metal bands like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, and Old Mans Child amaze listeners with orchestra including the usual guitar, drums and bass.

Long live Metal!!! And of course Classical.

All of the above is true . I would think that in terms of vocals, opera and complex jazz require the most talent.

All genres require talent, no one moreso than the other. Talent is what you need to start, work and studying is what you need to be good at your craft.
If you're looking for something that displays ability, any genre would do depending upon the person and their skills. A piece of music that utilizes your talents, not the genre specifically, will make the difference.

Classical music because it requires strict discipline to play music as it's written. Other genre's let you be creative, but not classical... even the solos are written out for you.
