Position:Home>Performing Arts> Why is it harder for female artists in the music industry to stand out?

Question:I think it's harder for female artists because people believe that "sexy" sells. Female artists ends up giving up their own styles and may dress the way they're told to dress so they can sell their music.
I also believe that many female artists feel the need to be thin and to look a certain way. This causes not a lot of the population to be represented in the female artists today. It would be easier for them to stand out if they were true to who they are and not become cookie cutter females. If they quit the extreme diets and plastic surgery I think it would be easier for female artists to stand out in the music industry.

Not if they show cleavage (everywhere), party like a rockstar, and get a DUI

because they need to sell sex some do some dont

sometimes easier.

I think it depends on the type of music I listen to a little bit of heavier rock and Id just rather hear a mans voice than a womans

More competition

Both really, because most of the mainstream ones suck satans cock because there talentless corporate sons of a bitchs

for all the progress we've made, it's still a guys' world

Because females are only looked up to if there appearance and body are right. So if they find a beautiful, SMART, and Talented music artist that is a female then they will mos def stand up. But the problem is...is that there hasn't been a female artist that has stars in all three.

because there are so many talented and gifted and beautiful girls out there, and far too many of them are willing to sell who they are to get to the top.

It would be a wonderfully differnt world if a female artist made it on her voice, and musical abilities alone. But unfortunately it doesn't work that way any more. Even the most famous (or infamous) Disney girls, have become icons of immorality.

I do not agree that it's true anymore.

I find they tend to rely on having a "pretty" voice, and not in coming up with anything new or interesting. Many choose not to push the envelope and come up with new sounds and new lyrics, and hope they'll be recognized instead because they can hit the right notes and sing a hackneyed song about love.

Because girls are more drawn to male artists, especially when they are teenagers or tweens so therefore male performers have a larger obvious support group.
Males often prefer male rock bands and usually don't listen to female performers (or at least they don't admit that they do!)
It's unfair but it's reality.
However, if they are extremely talented they will stand out! Think of whitney houston or leona lewis, even some girl bands like pussycat dolls =]

No need to start something that is not true. Females are just as popular s males if they put enough effort into getting there.

It does take a lot of real hard work in many ways to become a popular music artist.

Cos its a mans world and there is a beleif that females cant cut it. Unless they are exceptionally talented or they have the looks and show some skin.

Its kinda like that in the music industry as a whole

come on. They are ruling most of the charts in all type of music except rap. They have more to offer body wise , than a male artist.
