For the music you want to play, you want a steel-string guitar.

depends what music type your playing
nylon is for classical music
steel string more for like country music
sounds like you need steel strings, definitely for that type music

There is no "better." Each produces a different sound and harmonics.

It is, kind of, like asking which is better, a trumpet or a cornet.

The preferences depend on what kind of sound the musician wants to make.

Steel string is good for fold, country , rock etc.... Nylon string is good for the smoother type of music and don't need a pick . You can learn better co-ordination with a nylon classic guitar. I started this way and when i jumped on electric, all hell broke loose.
Another advantage is that you can play the bass line, chords, and melody at the same time on a nylon string. It is harder on steel string and you risk the chance of breaking a few nails. Then, you are stuck to let them grow.

well if you want to play
Hey There Delilah you want a steel string, but now if you like to do bends and all of that stuff then you want a nylon, personally I like nylons because they dont hurt your fingers as bad and it seems easier to get the chords down on em, but steel strings usually have better sound. Its basically just a game of which guitar suits you better and goes along with your skills.
