Hey, this is what you have to do. First thing, you have to have drums and bass. Otherwise you're just an acoustic act, not so much a band.

Craig's List, Myspace musician ads, and flyers at music stores (the one place all musicians HAVE to go) are surprisingly good ways to find musicians. Another thing you can do is find an "open-mic night" at a local music bar. This is the best way to find musicians who don't have bands because if they're there to show their stuff, it's likely they have no band and need open-mic as an outlet. Lot's of bars do this, ask around and check music/restaurant magazines for info on when/where to find them.

Once you have your rhythm section, it's on to writing and figuring out covers and learning to be a band. I suggest finding at least one experienced musician with patience to help teach you guys the ropes cuz there's lots of things to deal with out there.

If you're gonna be a cover band, you'll have to invest in a p/a likely so you can get more shows. If you're an original band only playing 45 mins to an hour, you'll probably be playing at clubs that have their own p/a with other bands.

Always remember, originals are what make you a musician, good luck, let me know how you're making out.....

Edit: as for the rest of your questions, your style is your style, do what you want with it. Plus, if your friend is a better singer, there is ZERO shame in learning harmonies to do back-up vocals. It's something GOOD bands have that sets them apart from bands that CAN'T do it. And try to practice twice a week or you'll forget those cool new riffs you just made up.....

get a key boarder...he should be ale get you the beats u want as a starta.......and later ull probably find someone for the drums.....

well for starters.....just do it good enough so u dont become a social out cast...

ALOT!!!

like you said get a bassist and drummer. You know, my brothers are in a band

try putting up signs around ur neighborhood me and my friends tried 2 make one last year but my dad said no practicing in the basement

u could also e-mail ur friends far away

You need a bassist and a drummer, and possibly someone at keyboards. Whoever your lead singer is should also play guitar, if they can't you need another guitarist. And have the band members vote on who should be lead singer, you or your friend, and have the other person do backup vocals. And for practice, as much as you need to until you have the song down perfectly.
