Question:how do i advance as a guitar player? on a scale from one to five in terms of skill , id say i was a two (i do grade harshly). i bought a new guitar a few weeks ago, and for some time i have been using a program called guitar pro 5.0 to learn. i have also been using the internet site www.ultimate-guitar.com to learn a few things as well...
but latly, it seems i have not progressed well. i keep playing the same things over and over (halo theme song, bullet for my valentine solo, things of that nature). i know a few chords, but i want to be able to learn skills that will help me to ultimatly play the song "canon rock" 95% accurately and the song "i'm alright" ...
i really do not have the money for any type of teacher, and it seems every one within a good radius sucks... can i get some help?

Well, a teacher would be the best option. Is there any college nearby with a music department? If so, post a note on their bulletin board and see if you can land a guitar major as a teacher.

Otherwise, I'd recommend going to ebay or a used bookstore and buying a lot of books, cds, or dvds. Get anything that looks good, and try them all out (if any are too advanced for you, just save them 'til you catch up to them). Using different approaches will give you more progress.

There is a website called ScalesAndRhythm.com that teaches all the scales for every instrument.

On top of that, they put all the scales to actual drum beats so you can play along and not get board.

it makes your fingers faster and more accurate, and you laearn to solo and write songs at the same time.

it helped me for sure.

check it out, its called www.scalesandrhythm.com
