Is there such a thing as a modeling school?

Yes, there are hundreds of modeling schools. I used to work at one, I taught acting and coached beauty-contestant pageant wannabes on interviewing skills (note: not the sappy questions they answer onstage--every contestant has an intensive interview with the judges that counts for major points in the scoring).

Now, many of the modeling schools are quite legitimate and have contacts at agencies when you're ready to work. Those agencies are more selective. Modeling schools that accept just anybody are not usually going to provide value for the dollar.
