Position:Home>Performing Arts> How much does it cost to put on a theatrical production in live theater?

Question:Depends entirely on the size and scope of the production. Are we talking large scale professional or small community theater? Things to take into account are rehearsal space, performance space, set, costumes, technicians, marketing, royalties, insurance, props, will you pay your director, musicians and actors, set designer, lighting designer, sound designer etc.

Costs can vary greatly for these things.

Anything from $0 for a small performance for your friends to tens of millions of dollars for a Broadway musical. You can put on a great show within any budget!

it can be anywhere from nothing to millions. also cost does not always reflect quality. I've seen some shows produced for only $2000 that were better than shows with 100 times that budget.

some costs consider:

space to rehearse and perform in
props
sets
costumes
paying actors
lighting equipment
sound equipment
paying a house manager, ushers, etc
scripts and copyright permissions

depending on what show your doing some of these things may not apply, or there may be other things I haven't mentioned.
