I played clarinet in high school too. I still play now and then at church. Hello to a fellow clarinetist.

When I was in high school, I generally devoted:

1. 5 minutes
2. 15-20 minutes
3. Scales, once mastered, took less than 5 minutes to run through, but it took awhile to get to that point. Devote as much time as it takes to get these under your fingers, since they will help you do those "runs" in your technical passages much more easily!!!
4. Our small ensembles met for 30 minutes twice a week, and during my practice sessions I would devote about 15-20 minutes depending on how much material and how difficult.
5. As long as it takes to master, especially if it is a solo. Do it until your mouth can't take any more, or until your family threatens to kick you out because it's 3am and they can't sleep! LOL

Only you can determine the right amount of overall time to devote, because only you are aware of how much time you have available, and how dedicated you are to your instrument/your fellow band members. This list reflected my own general practice habits.

Good luck!

1. 5 min
2. 2 min
3. 5 min
4. 8 min
5. 10 min

slipt them up into an hour a day (altoghether not each!). you cant be expected to give anymore time, unless you really want to.

It depends on how much time you want to practice.
1. 10 minutes
2. 20 minutes
3. as log as it takes to run all major and relative minor scales, probably 5ish minutes
4. up to 20 minutes, depends on the material, focus on the hard parts but also do run-throughs.
5. 20 minutes. I work as long as it takes to master them.
Do this a of couple times a day and don't forget to cool down with long tones.
