Position:Home>Performing Arts> Anyone else on here feel really bad when they don't practice for their music

Question:I've been so busy lately and its been three weeks since I practiced for my piano lesson. I wonder how the teacher feels when I tell him again "sorry, I didn't practice". I wonder if I should quit my lessons, because maybe he thinks he's wasting his time. Anyone else on here ever feel that way? What did you do to get over being too busy to practice? Do you think the teacher gets really upset?

I took lessons for 9 years, still play and win many competitions. I did not practice NEAR as much as I was supposed to. However, I DO know that practicing is the only way to get something accurate. The best way I know to get something under your fingers is to, with a metronome, start by playing it slow, and play it at least two times at that tempo. Once you get it completely clean, bump it up one, and continue progressing until you get to its performing tempo. This method takes time, but it is guaranteed to work. The reason I quit piano lessons was because I am too busy. I think you should think about what piano means to you, whether it is worth spending your time on. If it is, then try and move other things to make time. Its all about priorities. The best thing to do as far as your teacher goes is to be honest, and tell him/her what the problem is.

Thats happened to me so many times, and I also felt really bad. Do you like to play piano is the big question. I took piano lessons for 5 years, and I just got really busy, and the biggest reason was that i just didn't like it anymore. so really, its your decision. Its his/her job to teach you, not to get mad at you.

I play the violin and I feel like that a lot. I feel so guilty - my violin teacher looks at me like I'm not worth playing the violin, or at least that's what I think, and then I just want to shrink back into the ground.
Plus, when it comes to performing, I'm about as great as performing in front of an audience as a piece of tofu. Honestly.
