Would i have trouble transitioning?

the main difference is that an electric guitar needs to be plugged in to an amplifier (amp). the acoustic guitar's big hollow body acts as its own amplifier.

the electric guitar has "pickups" which are just magnets which translate the vibrating metal strings into a signal which can be made very loud.

when the first amplifiers were turned up past a certain point they started to distort. this distortion is now the basis of the rock and roll sound. you can also easily add other effects to the electric guitar sound which can be fun to play with.

perhaps the most pleasant reasons to explore an electric guitar as an acoustic player is that they are MUCH easier on the fingers to play, more comfortable to hold (thinner, some are contoured to the body) and although intended to be loud, when not plugged in are very quiet - so you could use headphones and not disturb anyone!

shouldn't be hard to transition - you might miss the acoustic sound and pick-up-and-play simplicity, but the acoustic is always there too.
