Question:What instrument do you use to compose songs?

I know how to play piano but I can't play well. I have a classic guitar but I have not learn from my father and brother yet. I don't mind practising more of piano but my piano is those huge sized ones. So I really don't mind learning guitar because I can bring it anywhere I want.

I already have the lyrics awaiting me. What about you? What do you recommend?
:) thanks alot.

I would suggest guitar for a novice because the simplicity of playing chords is a huge advantage. I personally use the piano but I've been a musician my whole life. I find more freedom in playing piano and composing unless I'm using guitar in the instrumentation. I actually don't use my primary instrument (the cello) because its function is primarily melodic.

Classical guitar....I've played it for over thirty five years....I also teach classical and acoustic guitar....and I find guitar easier to compose music with, this is only my opinion.....others may think that piano is easier to compose with, problem is, I've never played piano, so I have nothing to compare it too, guitar is my love, especially for composing !!!!!!!!!!

i play acoustic guitar..it's really amazing to learn guitar! i wanna learn how to play drums too, someday!

In my case, sometimes it starts with guitar; sometimes keyboard; sometimes I hammer out the melody on the flute first and then do the harmonies on guitar or keys.

I would reccomend piano--not just because it's my fave doesn't mean anything, piano is alot more exciting (to me). There are ALOT of artists that play the piano, that no one ever knew they have, or are famous with the piano. You can play anything on a piano, guitar is more limited.

I play a lot of stringed instruments, so tend to compose my songs on guitar, but I find keyboard useful for picking out tunes. Hope this helps
