Position:Home>Performing Arts> Is it too late for me to learn piano or guitar?

Question:I'm already 22. Do you know any great musicians who learned kinda late.

I can compose songs without instruments but I think I will be more believable if I'm using an instrument. I'm already 22.

Hey booster.. Never ever too late!! are you kidding me??? I started taking piano lessons 4 years ago and I am 44.. and I getting damn good I might add.. It is a bit challenging, but I was tired of writing killer songs and not being able to put the music in my head into a song for all too hear.. I highly recommend that you go for it..
NEVER TOO LATE.. If it is your passion, do it.. We are never too old to start learning something new.. My father, at 74 goes to college just because He loves to always study and learn new stuff.. excersice your brain..
Good Luck.. I love playing the piano.. 2 years ago I bought myself a piano for my birthday.. I committed myself to learning it and I won't stop until I am amazing!

hell no dude
it's never to late to learn an instrument

It's never too late.
People do tend to pick up things faster at an earlier age most of the time (like an instrument or a foreign language for example), but it is never too late to try and learn something you want to.

Not sure of any famous people who learned late but u r never too late to learn any instrument.

I been playing guitar only 2 months and i know over 20 chords, a bit of fingerpicking, and can play alot of decent songs and learning how to solo

Thats from teaching myself aswell. Theres many online lessons and help u can get, ul be able to learn it in no time

you are not too old at all, my mother is 46 and learned to play the banjo and guitar about 2 years back and she is excellent now and still improving, i think people value the ability to play instruments more when they are older so i think its a better idea to start in your twenties. i was learning to play the violin when i was younger but got frustrated and stopped which i regret not continuing now.

It's never late to learn anything!! Haven't you read those articles where elderly people are graduating college? Knowledge is everything!! Go for it, when you rock out, you'll be proud of going through with it!

Never say never!! Go for it!!

I'm teaching a 40-something year old the violin, and she's getting on faster than most of my young students. It really depends on the person, so I say go for it :)

No, it is not too late. I started learning the guitar at age 30 and the violin at age 35.

Do it now. But don't muck around by trying to teach yourself. Get private lessons.

If you have the time, you can do anything, I think adults are very capable of learning but usually they don′t have the time. Finding the time is the big issue not your age.

It's never late...you can learn how to play an instrument even when you're a 100 lol.

No way!! You're only 22. Do what you gotta do to follow your dreams. I can't think of any well-known musicians who got a late start, but does it really matter? If you put your mind to it, I'm sure you can do it. Obviously, you do have some musical background and that's a great start. Guitars and keyboards are great way to get started, they allow more experimentation for people with little skill (unlike the flute or trumpet which involve actually knowing how to play in order to do much with it...not to say that you do not have any skills). You can find a lot of information on the internet for guitars and keyboards. Both of those instruments also come cheap.

Good luck to you!

Nope, I'm 49 and just learning guitar. GO for it!

Age makes no difference! You can learn anything even at 90!

it never to late to learn how to play and instrument.
