Position:Home>Performing Arts> Piano: Do I just suck too much?

Question:I've only just start practicing the piano. I can't quite read the piano sheets too well just yet. But I've been learning since yesterday night to play Sunburn by Muse and I got better, I'm still slow and mess up a lot. Then this thought keeps getting across my mind "Oh give up! You're too slow, you can't do it!" And I'm like argh, pianists are just out of the world, I belong to this sucky world, sadly..
Am I the only one or do all pianists go through this stage..?

I've taught classical and acoustic guitar for over thirty five years and not one of my students have any idea what their doing for the first six months.....do you have perfect pitch ??? or are you a genius???? if so then I can see where you coming from....otherwise give yourself a break, your going to have to slow down....do you realize how hard it is to play piano.....getting your fingers in shape.....learning coordination, not to mention getting your muscles in shape...reading not only the right hand but the left.....and the reading of the music it self.....you've got to be kidding !!!!!! All this takes time like I said, unless your a genius.....It will probably take a year before you feel comfortable on the keys.....but please don't give up.....all things worth learning takes time.....you didn't learn to read in a year did you ????? Keep it up for a while longer....you'll be glad later on. I wish you luck.....If there's someone you admire who plays piano ask him/her how long it took them before they could play.....and then maybe you'll see that this is not you or your ability, learning piano is something that you don't learn overnight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't worry about it, it takes forever to become incredibly good. you've heard of the song fur elise? yeah, it takes about three years for you to become good enough to play just the two page version. don't freak out or give up! worst mistake you could possibly make.......

Ah, this happens to me too. I've been trying to learn a song for months now. It takes me a really long time to learn a song, usually a month for a hard one, but once I master it is a really great feeling. This one that I have been trying for a while is quite hard for me, since I don't really have an "education" in playing piano. So, don't give up! It takes a lot of practise and determination to play an instrument. A good piano player would have to practise for years to be really good. Never expect to learn a song in one day. Time is key! Just practise, practise, practise, and eventually you will achieve!
