Position:Home>Performing Arts> My double horn wont play right unless i have the double valve down. What happene

Question:It's not just cold because this has been happening for 2 days. I dont normally play the double horn because im a beginner.
Suddenly, the air doesn't seem to flow out of it all the way and the notes are all wrong. My instructer says its weird, because it plays fine when i put the double horn valve down.

are you using the B flat fingerings or the F fingerings?? The F fingerings will only work without the thumb valve, and, the B flat fingerings will only work with the thumb valve down, Make sure you are using the right set of fingerings. For beginners, you should try a single horn, which uses the F fingerings.
For the air problem, ah, nothing special there. If all your slides are pushed in (not all the way!!) and none are missing (check-there should be 8, or, depending on the manufacturer, 9) If that's not the problem, then I don't know.

A little tip for all beginner double horn players:
For any note that is A flat (the middle, not low one) or above, use the B flat fingerings with the thumb valve down.
For any note lower than that (G or lower. Again, the middle G, not the high or low one. aka note '2'), use the F fingerings with the thumb valve up.
This will make both playing high and low notes a lot easier.

Hope this helps!!!!!! I've been using a double horn ever since I began, which was 4 years ago.

are you blowing enough air or have a valve back wards?

If you are playing in the low register, the air will flow better, however be careful because the notes will not sound as controlled.
