This makes me angry?

Question:At this club they have open mic stand up. I asked about using a character, the main person who runs the comedy said no. Then I ask about music, and he says no. I don't get this at all. To me it shouldn't matter, because I did music before(somewhere else) and got laughs. I told him and he still said no. Does anyone on here think he's right for doing that? I mean he does say the point of the show is to make people laugh and have a good time.

Sounds like he doesn't want to be shown up. Because he probably isn't that creative. I agree with VIC it's open mic. I also agree with Adam. Andy Kaufman and Steve Martin were both great. Like I said he doesn't want to be shown up. Sounds like a jerk to me.

It's his comedy club, he gets to make the rules. If you don't like it, go to another club. If there isn't one, tough. He may be an idiot but he's the idiot in charge. You have to learn to be adaptable in this business called show.

Open mike is open mike. And that means it is stylistically OPEN> He is not running an open mike - he is forcing his tastes on the audience.

I would find somewhere else to do your routine. Andy Kauffman played a "character" in the form of Latka and you probably remember Steve Martin and his banjo routine! I don't get it, the guy sounds like a jerk and probably shouldn't be holding an open mic night.

Open mic should mean whatever. Especially if he says the point of the show is to make people laugh and have a good time. He should at least give you a shot with it. Then again he could be jealous.

Become big somewhere else and charge him quadruple to book you.
