What do I need to multi track record Voice and Instruments to my computer?

Question:Doesn't need to be a presentation quality recording.
Just desent for learning skills.

My computer has a 2.8 ghz processor, 512 meg of ram, and a 400 gb hard drive.

What other hardware do I need, and what is the simplest and best software needed to record multiple tracks and make loop tracks?

I am not a sound or computer engineer.
