Position:Home>Performing Arts> Can you carry on an electric guitar or bass on JetBlue?

Question:I've seen people do it.

Couldn't find any info on Jet Blue's website pertaining to it, but have been abreast of discussions between the Musician's Union and Delta on this subject. The AFM was boycotting Delta because of unfair and uneven implication of their carry on "policies" re: musical instruments.

The AFM has been trying to get uniform standards set among airlines, and has worked out an agreement with Delta:

Here is Delta's new policy:

I would suggest carrying the guitar and bass in a gig bag type of case to minimize the size. Remember to put your tools, string clippers, etc. in your checked luggage as they might be confiscated.

If you can find Jet Blue's official policy and you fall within it, print it out and carry it with you. Gate attendants vary in their understanding of these things.

I dont know about that specific airline. But my boyfirend ALWAYS carries on his guitar. Upon boarding the plane, the flight attendant places his guitar in a closet for him. It woudnt hurt to check ahead with the airline first (although he never has) he has never had a problem with this.

Every time I fly I carry on my Git. Usually I just put it in an overhead but sometimes the flight attendants are nice and offer to let me put it in a coat closet. Try to get a seat that boards early so you can put it in a compartment up front and not have to lug it around the plane.

Even though it is in a case I wouldn't ever check it in with baggage unless they really forced me to. Most baggage handlers beat the hell out of everything. I watched them throw instrument cases around like they were garbage cans and throw all kinds of stuff on top of them. My buddy's case is beat to hell from that.
