Question:I am looking for a song to sing for my musical theater audition. It has to be of the musical theater genre. It doesn't have to be long, or amazing, as I'm only auditioning for chorus. I am female. I have a fairly high pitched voice (even for a female) and it is softer, but I lack tone control, and my voice quivers ALOT. Sorry I don't have an example... couldn't find a good place to upload one.

f you could recomend a good musice theater SOLO for me to sing, baised on what I have provided, that would be so awesome.

Here are a couple that aren't too long (skip any repeats), and that are suited to a light soprano.

Remember to use your gut to support, keep your throat uninvolved, and don't fret about how you sound.

...and... have fun!

"I'll know" from Guys & Dolls
"I could have danced all night" from My Fair Lady
"Out of my dreams" OR "People will say we're in love" from Oklahoma
"I got the sun in the morning" from Annie get your gun
"Sixteen going on Seventeen" from the Sound of Music

Break a leg!

songs from broadway musicals--one enchanted evening-- oklahoma-- oh what a beautiful morning--surry with a fringe on top-- bali high---the sound of music--all that jazz--

Part of your world from the little mermaid might be good. It is a fairly easy song.
If mama was married from gypsy is a duet, but you can take part of it and sing that. That too is a fairly easy song.
All that jazz from Chicago is too an easy song although it is more appropriate for an alto; listen to it though because it is very easy too sing if you aren't very talented.

You can go to you tube to find clips that you can listen to.

I will think of more and add them.

There is a great song for you, but it isn't exactly Musical Theater, although it is close. The Muppets had a song, I think it's by Jeff Moss, it's called "One Small Voice." One of my students begged me to order it for choir, so I gave it a quick listen and decided that it had a positive message and might go over well. I got the folio and the class fell all over it. I didn't think it was possible to get that kind of a reaction, although I thought it was a good song. I really did not mind being wrong though and the least I can do is reccomend it to you

There is a lovely song from the 1930's "All the Things You Are". It is from "Very Warm for May" by Jerome Kern

If you quiver, you will sound passionate. Anyway, I think it may go to the A above the staff, but I think there's an alternative ending. It was originally sung twice in the play, once as almost an aria.

notice me horton -suessical

You didn't say what show you're auditioning for; it's nice to sing something in the same musical style if you can. But, since you're not going for a specific role, the main thing is just to show them you can be a solid chorus member. Also it's nice if you don't sing something that's being sung a LOT; right now I'd avoid anything from "Wicked", for example.

From how you described your voice, you might want to look at some of the older musicals with soprano roles; a lot of the stage sopranos in that era had a bit of a quiver to their voices. Some ideas:
Oklahoma! - Laurey's songs, like "Many a New Day" or "People Will Say We're in Love"
Guys & Dolls - Sarah's songs, like "I'll Know"
West Side Story - Maria's songs, like "One Hand One Heart"

My best advice, though, is to sing something you really love to sing. Something that you feel comfortable with (avoid songs with a lot of notes you're not sure you can hit) and truly enjoy singing is going to allow you to give the best performance at your audition.
